Chanuka bars, winner craft, and how do you sit on the couch?
Issue 14 // JAM

Hi !
We’re hoping your music is blasting and your kids are not home sick from school. And that you can enjoy the snow day, if you have one too!❄️
Also — we’re collecting Chanuka gifts, see the PS. 😊
Pre-PS. If you can’t access the links we share, please reply so we can send the JAM goodness in a way that works for you! 😊
JUST A THOUGHT
This made me stop and think recently:
“At least once a day your head should be where your feet are.” 🌄
I really struggle with quieting the noise and stopping the mind-racing. I’m usually in 15 places, and at some future point in time.
👉 What helps you achieve presence?
JUST IN TIME
Make it a bar! This Chanuka, elevate your meal (or snack) with a bar.
🍩Donut bar: start with plain donuts, and add fillings, like jam and custard, toppings like white glaze, chocolate glaze, confectionary sugar, and additions like chocolate chips, sprinkles, crushed wafers, and sauces.
🥔Latke bar: set out latkes, toppings like pulled beef and beef fry (for fleishig versions and to make it a meal), and sauces like applesauce, sour cream (for a dairy version), cinnamon, garlic mayo, and sweet chili.
Let everyone build their plate and enjoy. YUM!
Daven. As much as you can, in whatever way you can.
The below has been attributed to the Kedushas Levi, but we don’t have the original source and couldn’t confirm.
The bottom line: Your tefilos, for anything and everything, always are so treasured and especially potent on Chanuka.
Women have a tremendous ability to gain from the lights of Chanukah. Each night of Chanukah is mesugal for different things for women to daven for.
1st night – Not to be lonely or depressed.
2nd night – Shidduchim and Shalom Bayis (2 candles).
3rd night – Healthy, happy and good children. (The Chasam Sofer says when you cry in front of the candles – you can be sure your teffilos will be answered).
4th night – (Four imahos) To be a healthy woman, in the four walls of her house, who is true to her essence.
5th night – (Chamisha Chumshei Torah) For your husband and children to be talmidei chachamim. (By the 5th night, majority of the menorah is lit up. You can daven for more revelation and light in your life).
6th night – Simcha.
7th night – Beautiful Shabbosos infused kedusha (zmiros, divrei Torah). Shabbos is source of all bracha.
8th night – Mesugal for barren women. (Kabbalistically, the number eight is symbolic of something above nature.) Very powerful day to daven for yourself and others who weren’t yet zocheh to children.
The Kedushas Levi says if you are planning to start something new, if you start on Chanukah it will surely be blessed.

JUST THINGS FOR YOU
✈️ REC: Do you travel for midwinter vacation? If you do, or at other times of year, it may be worthwhile* to consider earning miles to book your flights at a lower cost. Check out United’s suite of Chase credit cards here (and note the Gateway card with no annual fee.)
*If you determine that this is the smart, responsible decision for your family!
🎨PRODUCT: This no mess craft* has been a hit in our house with kids of all ages (2+!). Highly recommend these DIY foil art stickers for a long Sunday afternoon (or Chanukah evening!)
*Almost no mess. Some kids managed to defy the nature of this craft and secured the stickers to furniture, leaving sticky residue… but it was all clean-up-able!
🫧 HACK: Clean up oil. You might have to do this in the next week 😁
Remove excess oil with a paper towel. Sprinkle salt, baking soda or corn starch to absorb the oil. After 15 minutes, wipe away, and clean with warm, soapy water.
