How are YOU Pesach prepping?
Issue 27 // JAM

Hi ,
You’re shopping or cooking or making lists or planning….
I love the energy in this pocket of time between Purim and Pesach!
However you’re spending the next few weeks… I hope you can enjoy it. 💜
And now, let’s dive in… today we’re talking Pesach 👇
JUST YOUR WAY
If you’re making Pesach, you have a huge job ahead of you. Here are some less-typical Pesach prep strategies you might want to try.
⭐Clean when it’s quiet.
“My Pesach tip, and I know this won't work for a lot of people for a lot of reasons, but if it helps someone it's worth it: I go to sleep early the weeks leading up to Pesach. Like, 8 pm early. Then I get up at 3 am and clean. The kids are sleeping, no one interrupts me, and I move faster because I'm rested and fresh. I'm a night person, and during the rest of the year I'd rather stay up late and get up... well, as late as the kids will allow. But I find with unpleasant tasks like cleaning, I'm much more prone to dragging my feet in the evening when I've already had a long day.”

⭐Cook outside the kitchen – now!
Make a makeshift Pesach kitchen in a lock-able space (guestroom, office, etc) with a crocktpot (or other plug in appliances – burner, convection oven, Betty Crocker.)
Start cooking now, and you’ll be able to clean/kasher closer to the last minute.
Women said this was especially helpful if they had little kids who were going to be home in the lead up to Pesach, lived in a small space that would be hard to keep clean for so long pre-Pesach, or wanted to avoid the half-chometz/half-Pesach stage in the house.
See this great Kosher.com article on getting this done!
⭐Do the heavy-duty areas early.
The biggest jobs often need to be done last (kitchen, I’m looking at you 👀) but you can lighten the last-min load by cleaning areas like your fridge, dining room table, or cabinets now, and lining them or covering with a plastic tablecloth. Then, when it’s time to turn over they only need a quick clean because the scrubbing’s been done.

JUST THINGS FOR YOU
🧹 TIP: Use your handvac more! My dustpan has officially become a Shabbos item. I sweep and vacuum the pile (less maneuvering than the pile → dustpan → garbage method, and no frustrating line of dirt that can’t be swept up!).
And often it’s better than a broom – it’s also so much faster to vacuum up snack spills (etc.) than to sweep them.
→ Have a good handvac rec? Please send! I’m going to have to replace mine soon.
🧳 PRODUCT: Packing cubes are underrated. Not only do they keep suitcases neat, they make unpacking a 10-second task and keep your items contained and organized when you’re living in a space that’s not yours.
🍗 HACK: Double all your suppers this week so you can pull out a freezer stock when your knee-deep in Pesach cleaning.
MOTHERHOOD MUSING
Behind every great child is an amazing mother… who’s pretty sure she’s doing it all wrong.
JUST FOR LAUGHS
