Pause, travel toys, and chapped hands

Issue 29 // JAM

Hi ,

We won't ask what you're up to, we'll just say — we hope that soon all you have left to do is match up the weather predictions to the new clothing and debate if Shabbos erev yom tov gets the new dresses or the  winter ones. 😂

Remember — you WILL get there, we'll all get there!

Wishing you a JOYOUS, kosheren Pesach!

JUST A THOUGHT

Pesach cleaning is, at its core, less about the kitchen counters and more about the שאור שבעיסה… and your soul.

It’s just so easy for that to get lost in the whirr of the vacuum cleaner and the bleach fumes…

So, now. Take a moment. Pause.

Close your eyes.

Choose one thing you’re committing to cleansing. A habit. A thought process. A lack.

Just one thing.

And now that you have it, do one thing to make sure it happens. Put a note on a nightable, set an alarm on your phone, or (I know you’re in your inbox now!) schedule-send an email reminder to yourself — or hit reply and we’ll check in with you. (No need to share personal details!)

And now, remix the cocoa powder into the potato starch… you can clean that last chometz corner with a lighter heart.

JUST FOR TRAVELERS

Traveling for yom tov?

Here are some portable toys we love for the car/guestroom/hotel:

And some ways to make your home-away-from home a little more comfortable for your littles:

  • Bring along comfort items (familiar blankets, pillows, stuffed animals or books can make a strange place less scary for your toddler

  • Use a sound machine and crib cover (game changing!) to encourage better sleep

  • Bring a night light (this one’s dimmable) to make tiptoeing around suitcases a bit easier

We suggested packing cubes and loved seeing these in action from reader R! One color per fam member 💡

JUST THINGS FOR YOU

🧊 TIP: Stock your freezer grouped by meal (if you have the space, a shelf per meal, otherwise just keep the pans together!) to keep things organized, and make defrosting easy. Especially helpful because you may not read your menu on Shabbos or yom tov (someone would have to read it to you. Ask your LOR for a personal psak!)

🙌 R:CE Moisturize. It sounds cliche, but my hands are chapped from all the cleaning (and constant washing as I transition from the chometz rooms to Pesachdik, and back). So this is your reminder to moisturize a few times a day, and my time to ask: any moisturizer recs?

MOTHERHOOD MUSING

Woman embodies the soul and spirit of the home in her very persona… woman is the guardian angel of the beleaguered home

– Rabbi Yonah Sklare in The Breathtaking Panorama (highly recommend!)

Thank you so much to the many readers who have shared feedback and ideas recently. We can’t wait to be back after Pesach! 💥

Wishing you beautiful family time and an uplifting yom tov of cheirus, nissim, and palpable hashgachas Hashem.

That’s all for today!💜
