Upsherin cake, hair wand, and a new side dish

Issue 32 // JAM

Hi ,

Thanks to those of you who joined our first Uplift! The recording went out to all of you (oops!) so I hope that was a nice bonus 😊

Have someone you want to hear from at a future Uplift? We’re limited to 12 a year; hit reply and let us know!

I made the best discovery thanks to my Friday-night snack craving: I’ve been snacking on pretzels and chocolate chips. It’s the no-bake, no-mix, no prep mommy snack. I used these shaped pretzelsšŸ‘‡ā€¦ so good.

Pretzel shape is an important detail, ofc šŸ˜…

JUST A Q

We’re like 2 wears into the season, and most of my kids outfits are stained (red pepper, pizza, marker). My regular methods aren’t working… help!

What are your most effective stain removal tips?

JUST IN TIME

Making a Lag Baomer upsherin? Thanks reader N for sending in this super easy, but super cool method for making a showstopper 3 cake.

  1. Bake two bundt cakes.

  2. Cut one in half. Cut the other by removing a slice that’s about ¼ of the cake.

  3. Arrange the half-circle on top of the ¾ circle to form a ā€œ3ā€ shape.

  4. Frost the cake with chocolate or dark buttercream. Line the ridges of the bundt cake with chocolate lentils to create diagonal stripes.

JUST THINGS FOR YOU

šŸ„”REC: Make potato-spinach muffins. The mood for a new Shabbos side dish + leftover supper spinach + a browse through kosher.com, led to a delicious winner of a dish. I didn’t use a recipe, but here’s how I would replicate it:

Boil 4-5 peeled potatoes until soft, and mash until almost smooth. SautƩ an onion, 2 garlic cloves, salt and pepper. Add a bag of frozen spinach and cook until super soft. Splash in some pareve milk to make it a bit creamier. Mix the spinach into the potatoes, scoop into muffin tins and bake until crisping on top. Yum!

🪮PRODUCT: T is for Tame is my favorite kids hair product (I’ve tried a bunch). It’s the easiest, neatest way to pull your toddlers hair back, no matter how thin or frizzy. It’s a hair gel with a mascara-style spoolie, and it works magic, without leaving goopy clumps behind.

JUST FOR LAUGHS

MOTHERHOOD MUSING

Our job is to teach children how to handle emotions. Not teach them to not have emotions.

— Linds Adams

Coming up next: I’ve always been invested in making Shabbos special and I’m ready for something new, especially with the summer schedule. I’m going to iyā€H be making a new shalosh seudos dish weekly so that we can end the weekly scavenging (it’s not usually so successful – challah, dips, and oh, maybe some fish if we have leftovers!). Share your best recipes and look out for the ones we’re going to enjoy and share!

That’s all for today!šŸ’œā˜•
