Cream cheese, flower tips, and the power of a hug

Issue 34 // JAM

Hi ,

This was going to be totally top secret, but in case it’ll be helpful, I’m sharing.

We’re working on something hugely exciting to launch in the summer be”H. And… it’s going to bring in a bunch new subscribers, so ad prices are going to go ↗ up. If you want to lock in an ad slot now, for anytime in the next 6 months, at the current rates… reply. 😊😊

JUST DESSERTS

I’m on a mission to elevate our shalosh seudos, the highest moments of Shabbos – our yichud room with Hashem – our “dessert.”

This week’s shalosh seudos was delicious. It wasn’t a proper supper for the littles, but they brought deli to the table (and proper suppers don’t need to be an every-night thing… right?!)

Chips Board

Inspired by nachos, but with too many picky eaters to layer foods, I prepared a chips board with:

  • Tortilla chips

  • Salsa

  • Guacamole

  • Sliced cherry tomatoes

  • Sliced (spicy) pickles

The colors were gorgeous!

I will do this again – it’s totally customizable, almost no-prep, fun to eat, and delicious.

JUST THINGS FOR YOU

🧀REC: Upgrade your Shavuos cooking with this special homemade addition. If you’re in Israel, you’ll do this because it’s the BEST way to make cheeseacake, and if you’re not, do it because it’s fun, different, and so much better than the store-bought. Make your own cream cheese. Yup, seriously.

Here’s how:

  • Mix your desired amount of sour cream with  salt – ½ teaspoon of salt per 7 oz* of sour cream.

  • Add the mixture to a cheesecloth (or brand new, especially dedicated pair of stockings).

  • Hang it above your sink (or from a cabinet handle with a bowl underneath) for 8-10 hours.

  • Taste, brag to your neighbors, and enjoy. 🤩

*Israelis: that’s ½ teaspoon of salt per container of shamenet. Our annual tradition is having the littles build a “bonfire” using all our yellow/orange/red MagnaTiles and legoes, and then blasting Lag Baomer music (the best!)

🥤HACK: Similar to our bowl suggestion here, these minis are a must-have if you have mini humans in the house – use them to prevent waste, spills, and “I want SO MUCH!” tantrums. (I grew up on them! Oh the nostalgia… Thanks Ma for being a great source of ideas for JAM. 😍)

💐TIP: Prep and maintain your flower this Shavuos. Check out these tips from Bayla Geberer on how to keep your blooms fresh and long-lasting. And look out for next week’s flower arrangement tips! *
