Entertain a toddler, school snacks, and give them a good day
Issue 44 // JAM

Hi ,
Thanks for all the feedback via email and WhatsApp. 🤩 It means the world.
Last time we recommended combining moisturizer + SPF to save time in the AMs.
A makeup artist wrote in to share that you’re losing out by combining because moisturizer is designed to be absorbed by the skin, and SPF needs to sit on it to protect you. So when you mix the two, one of them isn’t going to be effective. Makes sense! 💡
JUST A Q
It’s Elul and we want to know: how are you maximizing the month?
READERS RESPOND: How to entertain an only child, active 2 year-old?
Reframe: From personal experience, please do not get caught in the automatic trap of thinking your child is different than other kids because s/he doesn’t have siblings. Two year olds just need supervision — they are very entertaining on their own! ;) But if you choose to play alongside your child, it can pay off with real dividends and an unparalleled parent-child relationship.
Boys love to play dress up! It might sound strange to the uninitiated, but it's a game changer! Buy cheap costumes (grab sales after Halloween or Purim) and you have hours of imaginative play and fun (even for one kid).
Find a child close in age and invite him over. Ideally, if they click, they can take turns being entertained in both houses. Alternatively, find a youngest child who is bored and likes kids and will be happy to come entertain your child.

JUST FOR YOU
🛌TIP: Start moving up bedtime. If your kids have been catching fireflies and bike riding and attending bonfires in a bedtime-less summer, use this week to start moving them towards their school year schedule. Send them to bed ten minutes earlier each night to ease the transition into the year.
🥨REC: Make snacking fun. Give snacking an upgrade — and make it easier to snack-prep — with these amazing containers. Perfect for veg/dip, chummus/pretzel, yogurt/granola or peanut butter/apple slices combos, stock your fridge at the beginning of the week so you can grab-and-go. (It’s on my bucket list to do this. Keep you posted 😉)
🎒HACK: Prep your snack/lunch packing. If you (or your kids) are going to be packing snacks or lunches, some prep can make it (a little bit) easier. Some ways to plan ahead:
Make it visual. When the bus is honking and coffee’s not yet made, it’s hard to think of lunch inspo. Have the kids brainstorm preferred lunches and make a list to hang inside a cabinet or pantry for at-a-glance reminder that there are noodle soups, hot pretzels, and salad options.
Make it grabbable. Organize the snacks in accessible bins, so kids can easily pack their own bags. Categorize if relevant (growing up we got one from the unhealthy bin, and one from the not-so-unhealthy bin every day 😅).
Make it now. Sandwiches can be prepped in advance and frozen (yes, really!) and your fridge can get a salad bar restock every Sunday. Anything to avoid having to pack lunch while you’re also finding lost shoes and dodging groggy teens in the mornings!
