Car seats, leaf art, and little fingerprints

Issue 49 // JAM

Hi hi!

@Israeli readers, just turn up the AC and skip the next paragraph.

@USA readers, If you’re like me, and are taken by surprise when winter hits each year, here’s your reminder: make sure you have the hats, gloves, boots you need. (I have and love these for a little boy.)

JUST A Q

I’m really trying to stick to safety protocol and not put my kids in car seats with their coats… How is this practical when it gets super cold and they really need their coat to get from the front door to the car, or when running a bunch of errands? Any tips?

JUST A THOUGHT

I love this concept shared by Mussi Diskin (a JAM Drop speaker).

In my words: when a child displays intense need for attention, touch, or love — is super clingy, wants to spend alone time/a lot of time with you… 💥initiate the intensity💥

“I wish I could snuggle in your bed with you til the morning, and then the whole day, and then forever and ever, but soon I’m going to go out. Til then let’s snuggle so close.”  (→ I used that one this week.)

Or, “Omigosh, [NAME] HI HI hi! I’m so busy I can’t even sit down with you today, and it’s totally not fair, but I just needed a minute of ‘us’ time,” with a hug or high-five.

Adapt this to your style and your child’s age and needs. Powerful, isn’t it?

JUST FOR YOU

🫒RTIP: Spruce up your oil storage. I always thought these were for super fancy people, but using it in my sister’s house over yom tov convinced me that I need one too. (Maybe I’m super fancy now 🤷‍♀️.) Besides being gorgeous, and better-for-you than plastic storage*, it pours beautifully with no greasy cap or oil dribbles.

🍁🦘IDEA: Entertain your kids.

Take advantage of the gorgeous season, and give your kids simple activities to keep ‘em busy:

  • Leaf rubbing: Collect leaves, place them under a paper, and rub a crayon over to transfer the shape and design (some would say peeling the crayons is the best part 🤣). This kept us busy for a good portion of Sunday!

  • Nature floating frames: glue four twigs (or popsicle sticks) together to create a frame. Run strips of packing tape from the top to the bottom stick, until the entire frame is filled. Collect flowers or leaves, and press them onto the sticky side for a beautiful piece of art!

🍼 REC: Get relief for your baby (and you) with craniosacral therapy for babies! Rachel Stein, pediatric OT and Craniosacral Therapist, specializes in colic, reflux, feeding issues, digestion, torticollis, and tongue tie.
