School supplies, summer drives, and a supper rec
Issue 87 // JAM

Hi!
Savoring every minute of summer 🍉 knowing that we’ll blink and it’ll be snowing.
Right???
(It’s Shabbos Mevarchim Elul this week!)
JUST A Q
Reader S wants to know: any recs for suppers to take with you on a trip, or cook there?
JUST IN TIME
If you’re already thinking back-to-school, now’s the best time to prep your at-home school supply shop we recommended last year:
📚REC: Pull out the school supplies list… and shop from home! Skip the store runs. Order everything in one big haul from Amazon or Target, with some extras and color options, then set up a “supply shop” at home. Let the kids pick their planners, pencil cases, and notebook colors right off the shelf dining room table. Preferences met, shopping done — and you only left the house once. (PS. These look cool.)
JUST FOR YOU
🚗TIPS: Survive the drive. Road tripping? If you're spending any time in the car this summer, here are some ways to keep the kids busy:
Can-you-find bingo boards (make one tailored to your family and trip, use words, pictures, or hints)
Dry erase boards (doodling, hangman, tic tac toe)
Wiki sticks for window art
Water color pads & sticker stamper books (← we always make sure to bring these two along)
Where’s Waldo books (a family favorite! My 5yo loves these)
Magnetic puzzles (we have and love this set)
Also,
Prep individual bags of snacks, activities and prizes so you can just pass them back
Play family games like: I went on a trip and I brought, try to find all ABCs in order, everyone add a sentence to the story, 20 questions, I spy
💞REC: Join Eydel Resnick’s free “Master Your Parenting Stress” class free on Zoom, this Thursday, August 6 at 2pm EST/9pm IST. Plus, you’ll learn about the GAP Parenting: Giving Loving Authority Back to Parents program (starting Tuesday August 25). This unique, Torah-based system offers practical techniques you can quickly master and apply with children of all ages — neurotypical or neurodivergent. Topics include attachment, health, trust, joy, trauma, siblings, teens, self-worth, sholom bayis, ADHD, goal setting, communication, and more, all supported by modern medical research.
