Tishrei menu template, fun thinking, and summer as a mom

Issue 89 // JAM

Hi!

We’re still (trying to) keep it summer here, but soon we’re going to be back to school. Re-sharing two things I use all the time that are extra helpful this time of year:

  • These labels that last on clothing, knapsacks, supplies, water bottles, sports equipment, and more.

  • This visual timer that helps kids understand what “the bus is cominggg” actually means.

Happy school prepping!

JUST A Q

Reader M would love ideas for a good system to clean up toilet training accidents.

Readers Respond

On how to clean a Betty Crocker:

  • Plug it in, steam up some water, wipe clean with a paper towel.

  • ALWAYS line it!!! Get parchment and foil liners for the Betty on Amazon.

  • For saucy foods, line it with a generous piece of aluminum foil topped with a generous piece of parchment. If the food will touch the top, add parchment on top of the food too.

  • I take a regular sponge with a drop of soap, GENTLY wipe it down.

  • Wipe it down with wet paper towels while still warm, sometimes I use a Scotch Brite pad gently if something was stuck

  • Never use a knife on the surface. And if it's too far gone, buy a new one!

JUST IN TIME

Whether you’re up to this already, or going to file for later, here’s our menu template for Tishrei season. Use it digitally and watch your total challah count auto-calculate, or print it and hang it on your fridge.

We’d love to hear — what are you making?

JUST FOR YOU

✏️REC: Make thinking fun. JAM reader M wrote this addictively fun children's workbook that strengthens thinking skills for kids ages 5-11. Summer homework doesn’t have all kids begging to do “more, pleeeease” but this just might. I’m looking for ways to keep the kids busy now, and something that sharpens their minds pre-school is a great option.

😎TIP: Make a summer moment — even as a busy mom. Summer for moms might not mean vacation or a beach/pool day with friends but you can still give it to yourself in just a few minutes:

  • Take a bowl of ice cream with alll the toppings and eat it outside, slowly.

  • Make lemonade — freshly squeezed, with fresh fruit additions if you’d like — takes just ten minutes, and is a true summer treat.

  • Serve supper outside. (And don’t dirty a single dish, ofc.)

The tiniest moments can feel like summer if you intend for it too and soak up a little sun.
