Forgiveness, more onions, and Prime day

Issue 6 // JAM

Hi !

We’re soaking it up… the yom tov in the air, the sukkahs springing up, the weather… just yum.

We hope you can enjoy it too.

JUST A THOUGHT

It’s erev Yom Kippur, so we’re thinking about forgiveness. I wanted to share something that helped me recently after I was hurt badly by someone close to me, and despite wanting to so badly, was struggling to let go and move on.

Until I made it a team effort. I couldn’t do it alone, but I found that it was so much easier to package up the hurt, and give it to Hashem. “You know what happened, You know what I’m holding, and now… I’m letting it go and letting You hold it for me.” And every time I would get a text and reply without (the temptinggg) sarcasm, or would think more warmly of this person, I would mentally look towards Hashem and try to feel His smile or “wink” His way — this is hard for me, but You’re cheering me on through it.

I hope maybe this can help you. 💓

JUST THINGS FOR YOU

  • TIP: To brainstorm yom tov appetizers we like to think: base (carb)+protein.

Base options: tortilla, eggroll wrapper, puff pastry, potatoes (crispy cups or mashed).

Protein options: sesame chicken, pulled beef, meatballs, fish.

This type of brainstorming yields ideas like pulled beef crostini, sesame chicken puff pastry cups, and chicken wontons, sweet and sour meatballs and mashed potatoes, and so many more!

    Have fun mix-and-matching!

  • HACK: For softer onions (ex. for sauteeing) cut them against the grain and for onions with more crunch (ex. for pickling) cut them with the grain — from root to tip.

The science: cutting against the grain slices the fibers, releasing more water, allowing the onions to melt more during cooking.

Yeah, we’re thinking of replacing the coffee cup in our logo with an onion. It seems to be a JAM favorite 😅
