And... we're here 👑🍯

Issue 5 // JAM

Hi !

Here we are, on the cusp of a new year. Stripped of everything we have. And with nothing, anything is possible.

Daven well, in every way you can. 💓

Today’s email is quick so you can get back to your physical and spiritual prep.

JUST ACTIVITIES

You might be looking for ways to keep your kids busy during the long mornings coming up.

Here are some easy, fun ones. 😊

🍎Apple and honey party

You can do this at home, or make it a neighborhood activity.

Set out skewered apple slices, and let the kids dip them in honey and then the toppings of their choice: mini chocolate chips, sprinkles, sugar, crushed cookies, etc.

Don’t forget a plastic tablecloth and bibs for the littles! (I think I’m going to keep my kids in pjs for this one.)

🧸 Toy and book swap

Someone else’s toys are always more fun.

Before yom tov swap some toys or books with a neighbor, so you have a new (exciting!) selection.

🍽️ Meal prep

Let them help!

Kids can set the table (you can relax your standards or straighten the forks later), rinse and slice veggies, scoops dips into bowls.

You get some help (or keep your kids busy for a bit!) and they feel so big and special.

JUST HACKS

We got LOTS of feedback re: dividing onions sauteed in bulk. There were basically two approaches:

DIVIDE AND CONQUERTAINER

Sauté the onions and…

  • Divide into equal parts of however many onions you used

  • Flatten them in a circle and pizza-style cut them into as many slices as onions you used

Store in baggies or containers.

PRECISELY PORTION

Measure the onions:

  • Sauté one, measure, and use that measurement to portion your bulk batch

  • Presume one onion is ¼ - ⅓ of a cup

  • One onion should be ¾ of a cup (the reader who shared this attributed it to Brynie Greisman)

Every onion is a different size so no stressing bout this!

MOTHERHOOD MUSING

By lighting a candle on the eve of Shabbos and yom tov, the Jewish woman brings light and peace into her home and into the world.

— Igrot Kodesh, Volume 14

Wishing you a kesivah vchasima tova, a truly gut gebentched yur!

With fervent tefillos that תכלה שנה וקללותיה ותחל שנה וברכותיה
